Portland Children's Museum Rebrand

ART DIRECTION, LEAD DESIGNER

Portland Children’s Museum had a problem: parents thought it was just an indoor playground. While at Wieden+Kennedy 12, we were tasked with proving the museum with a fresh look and a new campaign to help change that mentality.

We realized parents were not realizing is that every exhibit at the museum was carefully designed to enhance creativity & develop motor skills. This was more than a playground, this was a serious (and fun) learning environment.

On that thought, my creative partner and I developed a campaign idea based on an interesting quote:

“In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like you. You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything.”

 FINAL CAMPAIGN The client ended up not choosing our  PLAY SMART  campaign, so instead I took a very active role in the winning direction as a designer.  That idea was based simply on the idea that Portland Children's Museum is unlike all other museums. After all, it's the one museum where touching the exhibits is normal protocol.  And that is something we had to tell people about.  Overall, our group completely rebranded the museum. This included new interior signage, a new logo, a new website, and a complete refresh of all printed collateral so it reflects the look of our campaign.
